Best tips to photograph a baby and dog together

We all know how complex a baby photoshoot can be. Add on to that, a dog can be a bit complicated. But dogs are fun and are loved by kids. These days, dog and baby photo shoots are becoming more and more popular with orns. Some things need to be taken care of while having a dog - a baby photoshoot.

In this blog, we are talking about how to pose a dog and baby together and things to keep in mind while having one.

Should a dog be kept with a child?

For parents

This is a very personal decision. For every parent, this choice can differ. You may want to decide if you want to put an animal near your child or not. These dogs are generally domesticated but ultimately can be predictable.

For example, if your dog is super active and restless then it is not advised to bring it straight to the photoshoot. It all depends on how the dog is introduced to the child and their bonding. If you have an energetic dog, you may need to walk it around a bit so that it calms down.

For photographers

Know your ability. You have to be very sure about dogs. And it's not only about the baby's safety but for yours too. For this, have a chat with the parents about the nature of the dog and how to have your way with it. Some dogs are trained well enough and won't be much of a problem. In this manner, you can create a fitting environment for both the baby and the dog according to you.

Know what is expected

Both the parents and photographers should know what is expected of the photoshoot at the end. Parents should define the expectations with the photographer. Normally parents let the photographer have his way which gives him or her a lot of freedom.

But if you want a certain set of poses, then you need to outline that beforehand. The parents can see the photographer's body of work to see if the expected results can be expected.

Safety is paramount

In this type of photography, safety should be of utmost priority. The photographer should be upfront with the owners about their dogs. Be vocal about any concerns with the dogs. For example, if someones bring a dog like a rottweiler or a terrier, make sure that the dog is properly trained. You might not be able to manage him well. Make sure that the parents are around all the time.

Be prepared

Be prepared beforehand. Ask the parents about the breed, training, treats, color, references. You can ask about the color palette that is to be used during the photoshoot. Also, ask about the kind of props that should be used. If the dog is a large breed then use low props.

Treats play a huge role in making a dog-baby photo session a success. Keep some treats with you to manage the dog properly.

Have a safe and calm environment

Babies and dogs both can read your energy. Stay calm and positive during the photoshoot. Try to be friends with the dog so that it is easy to handle.
