How to pose a sibling with a baby

We all have been faced with a situation like this where parents have come to us and said things like "We want some beautiful photographs of our two kids together ". I know what you are thinking. As if one kid is not enough. Newborn photography is already a challenging job, adding a sibling doesn't make it easier.

Photography with a sibling gets a little easier with time and practice. It can be a little daunting with a toddler as they can be moody and not wanting to get into the photos. You might have to get some tricks and treats to lure him into the photoshoot to sit with his sibling.

All and all siblings - baby photoshoot is quite a spectacle to watch. With both the kids playing and teasing around, it's the best time you can spend with your subjects. A lot of questions have been asked to us about how to pose an elder sibling with a newborn. Therefore in this blog, we will talk about how to pose a baby with a sibling.

If you are thinking of having a twin photoshoot then we suggest you read our previous blog on how to pose twins "insert link".

Now, Let's get started.

  • Swaddle the baby-: When you are trying to have a photoshoot with two young kids, you want it to go smoothly and without too many contingencies. Babies tend to play with each other. If the older sibling is a toddler there are high chances of him or her poking the youngest invariably while playing. This can be reduced by swaddling the newborn. Swaddling will reduce the chances of the child getting scared or awake.

  • A bucket and basket will come in handy-: Keeping the baby in a basket will not only make the photoshoot but also make a great frame. In this pose, you may keep the newborn in a basket with lots of comforters and blankets. This will help in keeping the baby cosy and get beautiful pictures with the elder sibling. One great pose is the elder sibling kissing the younger one.

  • On the bed-: This is a very popular and beautiful pose. In this pose, both the babies should be lying on the bedside side of the bed. You can make both the kids wear the same colour of clothes and accessories. This will create a beautiful effect and you will be able to capture many moments of intimacies with the siblings.

  • On a beanbag -: Beanbags look beautiful. After you have swaddled the baby nice and beautiful, you can make both the siblings lay on the bean bag next to each other while kissing each other on the forehead. You can also make both of them wear the same colour of clothes. Pastel colours look beautiful in a photoshoot.

  • Baby on the lap-: This one is for the siblings that are a little older. If one of your children is old enough to hold babies then this pose is great. After both the babies have been clothed properly well with accessories, we can put the younger child with the elder one.

These are some of the poses that we can make with the siblings. As we all know, making both the kids cooperate can be a little difficult, even if the kids are on their best behaviour. Even if you make it to the end of the shoot, there are high chances of behavioural problems, feeding and other scenarios. Therefore you must be ready to play alongside and have a few treats with yourself.
