What questions should a photographer ask his clients?

Did you get a new client? Hooray! But what now? What are the steps that you need to take after gaining a prospective client?

In this blog, we will talk about some of the questions that a photographer needs to ask his or her client.

Whenever a client hires you for any kind of photoshoot, the first thing you should do is take care of the expectations he or she has from you. What are the requirements and do's and don'ts that will be needed? You need to explain everything before selling your prospect.

Finding and asking the right type of questions might sound a little daunting but once you take that little step everything else follows. Once you have enough questions to ask your clients then you will find the whole process way easier.

Top questions a photographer should ask his or her clients

Introduction - In easier words, try to break the ice. When you decide to take someone's project, you need to learn a lot more about them to run the movement successfully. Whether you have talked to the client via email or phone call, meeting them personally is an important part of making them comfortable. Talk about their likings and insecurities and you are good to go.

Learn their story - Ask them about the story behind their photoshoot. For example, ask a couple how they met to create some beautiful moments for their pre-wedding photoshoot. This will not only create a beautiful bonding between you two but help in the creative aspect.

Ask them about any specificity - Some clients know exactly what they want. So ask them foremost about what they would desire in their photography session. For example, some brides want their wedding photographs to be captured in a certain manner by certain people.

What style would they like - Ask them about where they would like their photoshoot. Whether it is outdoors they want or indoors. If they choose an outside location then you need to get prepared accordingly. You may need to take care of the props, set a budget and do everything else that may come with the photoshoot. Once you have settled this, you can get going with the photoshoot.

Editing style- Ask them if there is any specific editing style they want. If there is any particular editing style they prefer. How much portrait retouching can they take? For example, some people specifically want a black and white photoshoot. In that case, you might want to be ready to get some great pictures.

Summing up

Now that you know what questions to ask your clients, you are good to go. Remember it's all about practice and bonding. The better you are in these, the more clients you can get.
